Subject: | At last, at last!!! :) |
Hi Everybody!
I have finally got one of those ever so elusive boards for my Amiga, no longer
will it run like Workbench 1.2 when I boot it up... The truth is; to get any
work done I had to boot with no startup for a long time...
...my A1200T was stripped of its 040/40, and left with 2Mb RAM when it used
to have 34Mb....
...and now I have a BlizzardPPC card, YIPPPPEEEEE! :) </brag> ;) Seriously,
I am gonna love every moment of it (abiding it works!!! ;), I have got almost
the so-called bottom of the range, a 160MHz 603e with a 25MHz XC68040 at 25MHz!
Slow, 160MHz is slow.... If Quake can do 20fps on this baby I'm gonna be dead
chuffed! =)
Anyway, now I have the PPC, and when I have fitted it, I now need to buy chock
loads of PPC enhanced software, I'm not completely loaded, but Ben Vost did
pay me for my work in AF136 (ahem! cough! :) so I thought it best to put it
back into the Amiga market, and not Barclays.... ;)
Okay, firstly - this may seem ridiculous, but it's the dire truth: what software
dealers in the UK can I still trust. I have heard so much bad stuff about Alive
and Epic (though Epic were v. good in the past), and I have suffered from CS&E,
what dealers can I trust these days? I'm thinking Eyetech and Weird Science
from the UK and Schatz.... whatever (the German dealer whose name is in English
'Treasure Chest' =), Schatztruhe? Anyway... :) Who can I trust?
Secondly, even though I have a 'low end' 160MHz PPC card, will performance in
things like Quake, Heretic II, Candy Factory, MPEG movie players, MPi/ii/3 players,
Elastic/Fantastic Dreams still be absolutely, ummm, fantastic? I understand
that Heretic II may not be so clever though, I do already have a gfx. card in
my 1200T - an Ateo Bus with Pixel 64 driven by Picasso 96 2.0.
Thirdly, what programs should I buy that really show off my PPC.
Fouthly, assuming I have plugged in my two SIMMs (two x 60ns, 32Mb and 64Mb
giving, 96Mb, gaaaaghhhhhh! bloomin' eckers! :), will it literally be a matter
of plugging it in, firing it up (probably literally in my case ;), installing
WarpOS v4 and then that's it?
Do I need to install from the floppy disk provided before I install the card
or after? Do I need to install anything at all?
Anyway, thanks for your time, I really appreciate it...
All the best,
Nick Lamburn.
Life is what *you* make of it, now what *they* make of it...
